McKinley Wilson “Triangle” Park Redesign
In 2022, we embarked on a revitalization of our beloved neighborhood “pocket” park, McKinley Wilson “Triangle” Park. Working with landscape designer Patrick Hand of Integrated Land Design we set out to deliver what neighbors had said they valued: a place to gather with kids and neighbors to enjoy each others’ company, with plenty of seating, green grass to play on, and well-kept landscaping. An outdoor neighborhood “living room”.
Below is a selection of before, during and after photos from the renovation.
Our former neighbor and FoSP co-leader, Nick Wolfcale (a 25 year + Springlake resident) played a lead role in the park redesign and refurbishment. Using his skills as an architect, he helped to drive the design and add creative elements, such as the idea of adding wooden “thrones” made from the nearly hundred year old oak tree that fell in the park. Nick also sanded and refinished the park benches and swing by hand, with help from his son, Jamie. We miss Nick terribly, but the park lives on as a testament to his love for his wife Patti, his son Jamie and daughter Lindsey, and his friends and neighbors in our neighborhood. We have placed a plaque on the swing in Triangle Park in his honor.
